Application

With the Triple Universal Needle, you can give hems a professional look – even without a coverlock machine: On your normal household sewing machine, you sew three parallel, stretchable seams simultaneously on the top of the seam using three upper threads.

The Triple Universal Needle is also suitable for decorative sewing. Achieve charming effects with very simple utility stitches like zigzag or blind stitch and more complex effects with decorative stitches.

Due to the slightly rounded needle points, the Triple Universal Needle can be used without problems on many types of fabrics.

Before Sewing

The Triple Universal Needle can be used on common household sewing machines that have a zigzag function. It is inserted into the needle bar like other household needles: The flat shank side faces away from you to the back.

The needle plate and presser foot must have a sufficiently large cut-out for the selected needle spacing.

Tip: Switch on the twin needle mode or a corresponding button on your sewing machine (if available) to limit the stitch width. This prevents the needle from accidentally hitting the needle plate and breaking.

Threading

  • A separate spool of thread is required for each of the three needles. If you do not have three spool holders, use one bobbin for the second and third threads and place them below the spool with the first thread on the spool holder.
  • Make sure that bobbins and spool unwind in the same direction. You can use the same thread color for all three needles or – for decorative effects – different colors.
  • Feed the three needle threads together through the guides of your machine as if they were one thread. Then separate the threads and feed one thread through each needle eye.
  • Some machines have special separation options. In this case, please follow the operating instructions for your machine for threading.

Please note:
The automatic needle threader does not work with twin and triple needles!

 Tips
  • Test the thread tension beforehand with a few sample stitches. Use fabric scraps for this purpose. Adjust the thread tension so that the bobbin thread runs slightly zigzag in the seam. This ensures that the seam is stretchable.
  • Sew a little slower at thick seams to avoid needle breakage.
  • Do not push or pull the fabric while sewing. This can lead to uneven stitch length and, in the worst case, to needle breakage.
  • To achieve a nice, smooth seam, you can use spray starch before sewing or a water-soluble stabilizer during sewing.
